Title: Aqua
Alternate title: Aria
Mangaka: Amano Kozue
No. of Episodes: 52 + 1 OVA
Genre: Slice of Life, Sci-fi
Snypnosis:
It is the year 2301. Man has terraformed Mars into a beautiful water planet, and has renamed it "Aqua". Built upon it is Neo-Venezia, an exact replica of old Venice, with beautiful waterways, palaces and plazas. Akari Mizunashi, a 15 year old girl arrives from Man-Home (formerly known as Earth) to become a gondolier trainee at a company called Aria Company. The company is lead by Alicia Florence, one of the three best gondoliers, also known as the three Water Fairies. Trough hard training, Akari aims to become a Prima herself. Many encounters and mysterious events are sure to follow on this planet of miracles.
My take:
I've watched this anime twice in the correct order of Aria the Animation > Aria the Natural > Aria the OVA ~ Arietta~ > Aria the Origination. And both times I've teared up watching some of the more meaningful episodes like episode nine of Aria the Origination, and the very last episode of the same season. A very sweet ending, they all ended up being a full fledged undine at their own timing.
Each episodes were told in the point of view of Akari the main character of Aria about her magical adventures with her friends Aika and Alice. What sets this series apart from all the sci-fi animes out there is the fact that this is all about life on the terraformed Mars which is called Aqua in the city of Neo Venice. This anime has really made me want to go to Venice, and made me think "has Venice sank???". All the time keeping are done by following the rules of the Darian Calendar made for Mars in case we do move there. So there are 24 months within a year with four distinct seasons each lasting for 6 months.
In terms of what we can learn from this anime, is that the fact that there is a possibility of life on Mars. There's also the possibility of inter- planet travels. And there the possibilities of extraordinary things that Mars has to offer if we do move there in the future. This anime also brought forward the importance of family and friends as well as the importance of having a network.
All in all I'll give this anime a 5 out of five for every aspect xD. Even if there's 52 episodes and an OVA I would consider this a very well rounded series worth checking out. The series started with a clear starting point which is Aqua and continues onto the manga series Aria where it ends with a definite answer on where each character ended up on their working path.
