I've just finished a watching a movie a couple of minutes ago titled "Painted Skin". It is a Chinese movie telling the story about a fox demon falling in love with a human. I know it's cliched, however the typical story about a fox demon falling in love with a guy here is twisted a little.
The story begins with a group of soldiers along with their general who were returning home from across the desert picked up a beautiful lady who were held hostage by the desert bandits. When arriving into town, the general was reunited with his wife.
While staying with the general, the fox demon fell in love with him. And all through out her stay, the fox demon was enchanting everyone, hypnotising them with her beauty and words. However, the wife knew from the moment they landed eyes on each other that the girl was a demon.
Enters the wife's former lover from a journey. She, the general's wife informed him (her former lover) about having a demon inside her estate. He believed her, however no one would believe her and so she kept quite.
Now skipped to nearing the end of the movie, the fox demon revealed herself to the wife. A few minutes later, a soldier went pass the demon's room. She informed the soldier that the wife told her that there's a demon in the room, and she took out his heart. After he had died, the fox demon told the wife that she loved the general. And she wants to be the mistress of the house. She wanted the wife to give her the title of Mistress. The wife then asked her a favour that if she does love him, then she would have to stop killing humans for their heart and that she will love him and grow old with him. The fox demon asked her to admit that she is a demon who had killed everyone in town and to drink a cup of tea with poison mixed with it.
So the wife drank the poison and turned white, thus the title of the movie "painted skin". She admitted herself as a demon who had killed the people who were dead. Even her household doesn't believe her as their mistress. The wife ended up being mocked, thrown at and humiliated at because of her painted skin. She did it for love. I LIKED THE MOVIE, even if it's a little cliched.
In the end it was hmmmmm... not the best ending, the wife became well due to the antidote >.> and everyone got well, the fox demon shed her human skin and turned to her true form. The song that goes with it was nice!! I think that's the only thing that got me curious and started watching this movie. The song is titled "painted heart" Real nice, although it's in Mandarin xD. Not much to say about it really... Not much of a CG oriented movie... most of the scenes are naturally shot. Except the ending where the fox demon dis-integrated herself, and turned into a snow fox. And also when she shed her human skin and showed her insides, it was a bit scary there.
The only thing out of the movie that I LOVED was the whole outfit for women. The multi layered kimono *____*, the whole lacquer wear for dining and such. OHH and don't forget the long hair xD HAHAHA. I mean, women I think in ancient China don't have short hair. Most noble women or wifes of soldiers don't have short hair, because they always put it up in elaborate buns or just let it be, and tied up with ribbons.
